A large percentage of your organisation’s data is held in spreadsheets but at the moment, you’re struggling to extract the information you need. This course will give you the skills to perform simple data analyse in Excel.  You will learn how to use formulas, conditional formatting, filtering and sorting and many more data analysis features to help you in your work.  By completing structured exercises, using data relevant to your work, this course will increase your competence in day-to-day data analysis making you more efficient and productive. This course also prepares you for moving on to the Microsoft Excel Level 3 Course.

To get the most out of this course you will have attended the Burningsuit Microsoft Excel Level 1 Course.  Or you feel reasonably competent in using worksheets to enter data and do basic formatting work and you now want to concentrate on the analysis of your data.

We specialise on on-site training and can come to you to run our course either on your PC's or provide our own high specification equipment. If you want specific training for your staff, we're happy to customise this course to your requirements, adding or removing topics as necessary.

Review of Excel Formulas 

  • Accurately enter an Excel formula 

Working with Basic Excel Functions

  • Accurately enter SUM, MIN, MAX, AVERAGE, COUNTA and TODAY functions. 

Using Quick Analysis* 

  • Entering formulas using the Quick Analysis feature. 

Absolute References

  • Accurately enter a formula that uses absolute references.

The IF Function 

  • Construct IF function correctly to etner data into cells bassed onthe result of a test. 

Sorting Data

  • Sort data into alphabetical or numeric order.
  • Use Custom Sorting to sort to more than one level.

Creating Subtotals

  • Create subtotals on sorted data.
  • Use an Outline to analyse Subtotals

Filtering Data

  • Filter data to show only the data you want to see.
  • Use the Advanced Filter to perform more complex filters. 

Using Flash Fill* 

  • How get Excel to automatically fill columns with “patterns” of data.
  • Examples of using Flash fill.  

Using an Excel Table

  • Use Table Styles to format large amounts of data for readability.
  • Use Table Styles to analyse data. 

Using Slicers in an Excel Table* 

  • Inserting Slicers
  • Using Slicers to filter data in an Excel Table
  • Customising Slicers. 


Conditional Formatting

  • Analyse data by applying conditional formatting based on criteria eg: colour red cells with numbers greater than 100.
  • Using Quick Analysis to apply Conditional Formatting.*

Creating Cell Styles 

  • Define your own Cell Styles to quickly format cells consistently. 

Select Special

  • Highlight special cells eg blank cells, containing formulas or conditional formatting

Arranging Windows

  • Splitting windows.
  • Work with a New Window.
  • Arrange your windows.
  • View worksheets side by side.

Printing Techniques

  • Work with Page Layout View
  • Control the printing of large spreadsheets
  • Set up a Print Area to print only parts of your spreadsheet.
  • Print Titles so that your data headings repeat on new pages.
  • Create Headers and Footers

  • How to insert a chart to show your data accurately
  • Modifying a chart
