This is the outline of our Microsoft Word Level 4 course. Duration: 1 day 

Although you’re a competent user of Word, you have specific targets to meet and you feel frustrated because your existing Word knowledge keeps letting you down. By its focus on specific and specialised areas of word processing such as bookmarking, indexing and cross-referencing this is an advanced level course that will give you the skills you need to tackle challenging word processing tasks.  By completing structured exercises, using examples relevant to your work, this course will increase your competence in advanced word processing techniques and help you meet those targets more efficiently. This course also prepares you for moving on to the Microsoft WordVBA Course.

To get the most out of this course you'll have attended the Burningsuit Microsoft Word Level 3 Course.  Or, you are a competent Microsoft Word user and you need to know how to use specific and complex areas of Word.

Using Bookmarks

  • Quickly move to a specific part of a long document.

Creating Captions

  • Add a caption to pictures, tables, diagrams etc.
  • Edit captions.


  • Correctly cross-reference headings, numbered paragraphs, bookmarked text and captions.

Inserting Footnotes and Endnotes

  • Add Footnotes and Endnotes into a document.

Using Citations and Bibliographies

  • Cite a book, journal or article.
  • Add a Bibliography that lists all the sources cited.

Advanced Multilevel Numbering

  • Accurately number sub-headings and sub-paragraphs.
  • Linking numbering levels to Heading Styles

Using Word Fields

  • Place information in a document that automatically updates eg the document’s filename
  • Use the StyleRef field to pick up heading text in a header or footer.

Advanced MailMerge

  • Using Rules in advanced Mailmerge to filter recipients using conditional criteria.

Create OnLine Forms

  • Create a form where the user can only fill in the fields and not edit the form.

Inserting Watermarks

  • Insert watermarks into a document.
  • Add your own watermarks to the watermark gallery.
